TV I Have Finished Or Stopped Watching in 2018
Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later (Netflix Original Series)(This was fun. I'm not a HUGE "Wet Hot" fan, but I enjoy them well enough to watch these little one-off series.)
Dance Academy(Started 2/16/18, Completed 3/9/2018)(This was a surprisingly good little show! Gave me lots of feelings and I really liked all the characters. Will probably check out the movie at some point.)
New Girl (Sad this show has ended it's run! It was such a fun time, and I grew to really love the characters. At least it went out still good.)
Episodes (Started 3/15/2018, Finished 5/24/2018)(This was very enjoyable and well done. Only took forever cause we were exhausted and/or busy fairly often the last few months, lol.)
Mozart in the Jungle (Amazon Original Series)(This was a great series, and I think it ended on the right note for it- extremely odd, full of whimsy, with a lot of "viewer interpretation" available for the last bit. Cynthia got short changed in the final season, though, for sure.)
The Walking Dead(Finally finished the last season like a month after it aired. I think we're done with this show, which started incredibly well and has gone so far downhill into dick measuring angstathons. If we hear good things about next season, we may come back.)
Alias (Started 1/6/18, Completed 6/3/2018)(Re-Watch w/ Mark Watches)(This is SUCH an overall great show. It's definitely not perfect, but it's a super fun wild ride. The twists and turns are phenomenal, many of the character arcs are wonderful, and Syd/Jack and Syd/Vaughn gets me in the feels. Dixon is dramatically and criminally underused and the show definitely has a problem with how it portrays POC, but it was a joy to revisit.)
Hannah Gadsby: Nanette(Watched 6/30/2018)(This was an EXCELLENT stand up special. Truly one of the best I've ever seen. Sad I only discovered Gadsby on her retirement.)
W1A (Started 7/9/2018, Completed 8/11/18)(This was clever and so deeply British. I found it also very sleepy, though, so watching right before bed meant I missed several plot points. LOL)
Dietland (SO SAD THIS WAS CANCELED. It was excellent and I'm v annoyed.)
Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat (Netflix Original Series) (This was SO SO lovely and I wish it hadn't been a limited series and now I want the book!!!)
Murphy Brown(2018)(Really bummed this was canceled! I'm hoping they find a streaming service home (that IS NOT HULU) as I was enjoying it.)
MOVIES!
Movies Watched in 2018
The Big Short(1/4/18) This movie was really good, but really painful. Watching even a fictionalized (though I think based in some accuracy) depiction of the housing crash that left millions homeless was.... hard. That said, incredible performances, and good to see it all laid out like that.
Star Trek: Into Darkness Of the last 2 "ALL OF STAR TREK EVER" things I have to watch, I kind of delayed this one as I'd heard it was fairly terrible. It certainly wasn't good, and the whitewashing of Kahn was egregious. While I understand this is an alternate, parallel sort of timeline universe.... that's still unacceptable. Otherwise, the story was a bit of a mess overall, anyway. Very muddled. Meh.
I, Tonya(1/20/18)(This was VERY well done! And if it's at all based in reality, it does a nice job of showing a different angle of the Tonya Harding story, for sure.)
Star Trek Beyond(1/20/18)(This was significantly better than Into Darkness, and generally a fun, solid movie! With very few if any lens flares! Really enjoyed new character Jaylah, as well.)
Coyote Ugly(1/21/18)(Re-Watch)(Oh, man I love this movie. It's so fun. Great to revisit for the first time in years and years.)
The Post(2/1/18)(This was REALLY good! So intense, such great performances (I mean, Meryl Streep & Tom Hanks are always great), and truly relevant & timely as the Freedom of the Press is again quite under attack.)
A Bad Mom's Christmas(2/3/2018)(SUPER fun! Not as great as the first, but still really enjoyable.)
Coco(2/3/2018)(Damn this was good. Really, really good. Amazing job, Pixar, as usual.)
Get Out(2/3/2018)(Lived up to every bit of hype. This was FUCKED UP and CREEPY and soooo well done, particularly as it managed to call out "nice white liberals" before ever doing anything with horror!)
10 Cloverfield Lane(2/10/2018)(This was quite good! Creepy with excellent performances.)
The Greatest Showman(2/12/2018)(It took three visits to the theater to finally see this in full, but it was worth it. SO SO GREAT. SO GREAT. SO HAPPY. I LOVED IT SO MUCH. AHHHHHHHH.)
Fattitude: The Movie(2/27/2018)(Re-Watch)(One of the greatest nights of my career, as I helped bring a showing of this to Raleigh, and the theater was about half full, and everyone responded so well to this incredible and important film. <3)
Moana (3/3/2018)(Re-Watch)(I love it so much)
Mulan (3/3/2018)(Re-Watch)(I love it so much)
Safe Haven (3/3/2018)(This was fine. Not great, not awful. Just fine. Good to watch while sick.)
Step Sisters (3/4/2018)(This was dreadful. Total fail, Netflix. TOTAL FAIL.)
Queen of Katwe (3/4/2018)(Lovely little movie! Very sweet, really.)
American Reunion (3/5/2018)(Basically the exact same movie as any other American Pie movie, meaning it was Not Good at this point. Ah, well.)
Bring It On (3/11/2018)(Re-Watch)(CLASSIC!)
Black Panther (3/17/2018)(Finally saw this and it was AMAZING! It was everything it needed to be and totally lived up to all the hype. Really awesome movie; one of Marvel's best.)
Pacific Rim: Uprising(3/25/2018)(This was fun! John Boyega is pretty. Robots!)
Love, Simon (4/4/2018)(Oh my goodness this was just lovely! I adored it. Sweet, sincere, delightfully diverse...a great coming out love story. Just so lovely.)
Spiderman: Homecoming (4/7/2018)(This was quite good, and so refreshing not to start over with Uncle Ben's death again. Tony Stark also really added something nice to the Spidey dynamic, tbh.)
A Wrinkle in Time(4/8/2018)(VERY good!!! I loved it. Loved the messages of the film a lot, and could tell how...powerful it was. Felt it the whole way through.)
Avengers: Infinity War (4/29/2018)(AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)
Tully (5/4/2018)(This was quite good and extremely well done! Twist ending that I barely predicted. Exceptional performances.)
Mamma Mia (6/2/2018)(Re-Watch)(Fun terrible movie!)
Solo: A Star Wars Story (6/3/2018)(I thought this was great fun, that the actors did extremely well inhabiting these iconic characters, and that it fit right into SW canon. IDK why people were so grumpy about it.)
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (6/7/2018)(Watched on the plane to Paris, and it was very well done! Loved the original and this one did a good job continuing that story.)
Pitch Perfect 3 (6/7/2018)(Watched on the plane to Paris, this was such a crap movie.)
Black Panther (6/8/2018)(Re-Watch)(Watched on the plane to Paris and of course it's always amazing)
Justice League (6/22/2018)(Watched on the plane from London, and it was much better than I expected. I loved all the Wonder Woman stuff (of course), enjoyed The Flash, and honestly didn't hate Ben Affleck as Batman)
Peter Rabbit (6/22/2018)(Watched on the plane from London, and this was cute. Too food shame-y for my liking, but I can't deny it made me LOL.)
Love, Simon (6/22/2018)(Re-Watch)(Watched on the plane from London, still great.)
The Avengers (6/22/2018)(Re-Watch)(Watched on the plane from London, still so good. Fun to see how all the characters and relationships have built since this movie, too.)
The Princess Diaries (7/7/2018)(Re-Watch)(This really is adorable; I'd forgotten just how adorable.)
Ocean's 8 (7/7/2018)(While not as good as I hoped- it needed to be tightened up a bit- the cast was so great, the heist was a lot of fun, and the story all really picked up once that started. Enjoyed it!)
Ant Man & The Wasp(7/15/2018)(This was very fun and enjoyable- love Paul Rudd & Michael Pena for bringing the humor, and Evangeline Lily really kicked ass.)
How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days (7/22/2018)(Re-Watch)(I love this movie so much. Remains one of my fave ever rom-coms.)
Like Father (8/5/2018)(A Netflix original movie that was thoroughly enjoyable with a very good cast! I love Kristen Bell, and Kelsey Grammar is so talented.)
The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement(8/5/2018)(Re-Watch)(Cute! Not quite as good as the first one, but still very cute indeed.)
The Greatest Showman(8/12/18)(Re-Watch)(I love it so much)
Frozen(8/12/18)(Re-Watch)(I hadn't seen this since the theater, and while I only had it on in background while I was doing some cleaning and cooking, it was still really enjoyable.)
Crazy Rich Asians (8/15/2018)(Really enjoyable!! Fun romcom plus amazing to see an entirely Asian cast being celebrated.)
Cars 3 (8/17/2018)(This was sweet! A much better movie than Cars 2. Really enjoyed it.)
To All The Boys I've Loved Before (8/19/2018)(OK, this was adorable and lovely and now I want to read the books!! Great movie from Netflix.)
Moonrise Kingdom (9/13/2018)(This was an odd little movie! I can see why it's critically acclaimed, but it's in that usual Wes Anderson style that only sometimes works for me. This was one of the "not so much" times.)
The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society(9/15/2018)(Well this was a delight! Very sweet, interesting, engaging. All I wanted it to be!)
The Big Sick (9/23/2018)(This was really quite lovely. Sweet, funny, and at points sad. Great watch.)
Book Club (9/30/2018)(So cute!! Really enjoyable.)
A Quiet Place (9/30/2018)(Great concept, great performances, poorly executed in some ways- lots of plot holes that were annoying.)
Home Again (9/30/2018)(Re-Watch)(Very cute still)
The Craft (9/30/2018)(Re-Watch)(Still scary! This damn movie holds up!)
A Star is Born (2018)(10/7/2018)(OMG THIS WAS SO GOOD HOLY SHIT. Sobbed. It truly was amazing.)
The Hate U Give (10/21/2018)(Wow. This was a very good adaptation of an excellent book. It was intense, made changes even I approve of, was extraordinarily well-acted, and was all in all important viewing.)
Julie & Julia (11/18/2018)(Re-Watch)(Love this movie <3)
Fences (11/23/18)(Intense, very good. You can really tell it was a play first and can just about envision it on stage. Obviously excellent performances.)
Dumplin' (12/8/2018)(Oh gosh this was good. It was all that it needed to be. I cried. I laughed. It was... well, amazing. So so happy.)
Sex and the City(12/8/2018)(Re-Watch)(Still makes me cry after all this time and now I want to rewatch the whole series, ha.)
The Princess Switch (12/12/2018)(Adorable little holiday movie, perfect for a sick day.)
Elf (12/15/2018)(Re-Watch)(Even more fun with friends and the Elf Drinking Game!)
Home Alone (12/15/2018)(Re-Watch)(Always a good time)
The Holiday(12/22/2018)(Re-Watch)(Such a sweet little movie)
Holiday Inn(12/22/2018)(New to me movie! I actually really liked it, minus the sudden blackface in the middle, which was pretty awful.)
To Grandmother's House We Go(12/22/2018)(Re-Watch)(LOLOLOL)
Love, Actually (12/23/2018)(Re-Watch)(Annual must watch!)
A Christmas Prince (12/24/2018)(Cute holiday schmaltz!)
Twas the Night Before Christimas (12/24/2018)(Re-Watch)(Annual must watch- all time fave!)
The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus (12/24/2018)(Re-Watch)(I hadn't watched this one in some years, and I still love it!)
Frosty the Snowman (12/25/2018)(Re-Watch)(Annual must watch!)
The Year Without a Santa Claus (12/25/2018)(Re-Watch)(Annual must watch!)
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding(12/25/2018)(Not as enjoyable as the first one, but still nice)
Mary Poppins Returns (12/30/2018)(Really enjoyed this film a ton! It felt like Classic Disney Magic, with tons of nods to the film of the 60s without anything being too on the nose. The acting, costumes, sets, and songs were all fantastic. Obvi I loved Lin-Manuel Miranda, but I was pleasantly surprised by just how incredible Emily Blunt was.)

Step Sisters (3/4/2018)(This was dreadful. Total fail, Netflix. TOTAL FAIL.)
Queen of Katwe (3/4/2018)(Lovely little movie! Very sweet, really.)
American Reunion (3/5/2018)(Basically the exact same movie as any other American Pie movie, meaning it was Not Good at this point. Ah, well.)
Bring It On (3/11/2018)(Re-Watch)(CLASSIC!)

Julie & Julia (11/18/2018)(Re-Watch)(Love this movie <3)
Fences (11/23/18)(Intense, very good. You can really tell it was a play first and can just about envision it on stage. Obviously excellent performances.)

The Holiday(12/22/2018)(Re-Watch)(Such a sweet little movie)
Holiday Inn(12/22/2018)(New to me movie! I actually really liked it, minus the sudden blackface in the middle, which was pretty awful.)
